Better Serving Families in 2021

Welcome David!

Full circle.
Few people intentionally embark on a career in college admissions. Often it's as simple as a former campus tour guide who falls into an admission counseling position after graduation (on the way to whatever job or graduate program comes next).I was just such a student - except I had the good fortune as a tour guide to work in an office run by Vice President for Enrollment David Hawsey.A graduate of Drexel University (B.S. and M.B.A.), David has spent 30 years in enrollment management at a variety of institutions, from his alma mater, to Juniata College, Penn State, Emory & Henry College (where he encouraged them to get into the horse business!), Albion College (my alma mater), and most recently to Earlham College, the institution from which he will retire later this spring. He is also the co-founder of the website College Confidential (which was sold in its infancy and has since grown beyond anything he ever envisioned).David has long been a mentor and friend and this year he will become a colleague once more. David's role with current and future client families in the practice will be primarily in the background as he supports my work with student list building and the strategies to help students continue to make great college matches, as well as assisting with the expansion of The Equestrian College Advisor into a practice that works with both equestrian and non-equestrian students. (Don't worry, riders - my primary focus will continue to be on the ever-changing world of intercollegiate equestrian sports. As David comes most recently from the decision-making side of the desk, however, his insights will be invaluable to all of us come application time!)David will also be part of one meeting for every comprehensive client in the class of 2022 onward to share his wisdom and insights directly with families as the final college list comes together. I think you'll come to value his input as much as I do and I'm excited to have his partnership in the New Year!Join us on Facebook Monday, January 25 at 7:00 pm EST for the first ECA Live conversation of 2021 when we talk about applying to college in the era of COVID. Look for specific details in your inbox soon!

College admission expert Jeff Selingo recently spoke on PBS Newshour about how the pandemic has shaken up college admissions and the testing world.
