Students - keep working on those essay drafts.  The Common Application goes live in one week!!! NEWS ITEMS:Council of Independent Colleges of Virginia Tour 2013:  The annual CICV student campus tour week begins on July 29.  For details and further information on the advantages of visiting Virginia private colleges during this week, visit the CICV web site.2013 Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Equestrian College Fair:  The 2013 equestrian college fair hosted by the folks of the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show in Katy, Texas will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013.  The college fair portion will be in the afternoon (2:00 - 5:00) and the coaches' panel will be from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the same location, which will be the Arena Club of the Great Southwest Equestrian Center.  It's a great event and if you will be in the Houston area, it's worth checking out.  Admission is free.2014 College Preparatory Invitational Horse Show:  The 2014 CPI Horse Show will be held at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center on March 28-30, 2014.  Applications for hunt seat riders will be available on August 15 and for dressage riders on September 15.  Be sure to submit your applications quickly, as the event is popular and spaces fill up fast.  (Visit their web site.)Equestrian-ONLY Package Available:For students who may already have a college list in place or may be working with another educational consultant in their hometown, I'm now offering an equestrian-only advising package, which includes 3 meetings to discuss and advise on the equestrian component of the college search.  Additional meetings and support services can be purchased as a part of the package for those who wish.  For others, it can be an economical way to get some educational consultation and support without the full commitment (and price!) of a comprehensive package.From the blog:.The final stop on the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) tour was Marian University in Indianapolis.  Marian is a long-time mainstay of Indiana’s higher education system, but as we counselors learned on this in-depth visit, it’s enhancing a lot of key areas for students as it continues to evolve and move forward as an institution. With an undergraduate population of around 2,300, the small Catholic university is getting a boost in their graduate and professional enrollment with the opening of their brand new medical school on campus.  Other academic programs that have seen recent overhauls to propel them forward include the Byrum School of Business and the School of Math and Science.  Career experts continue to tell students and their families that jobs in health care and STEM (science) fields are increasing and need people to fill them and it sounds as though Marian is on track to help produce those types of graduates.  Read More
