SENIORS: Remember - just because applications are done, don't relax now!  (Well, relax long enough to have some turkey and start your Christmas shopping. Sleep in while you're on break.)  BUT THEN -  If you haven't contacted the riding coaches at the schools you're interested in, now is the time to fill out those online recruitment forms and get your resumes and videos to them.  Many will use the upcoming semester break to review recruiting materials - make sure yours are there for them to see!  Also - if you have already done so and are waiting to hear back, take the upcoming break time to familiarize yourselves with their team's record this season so that you can ask good questions when they do respond.  JUNIORS: Do you know anyone who will be home on Thanksgiving break from their first semester of college?  Family? Friends from school or the barn?  Reach out to them and grab coffee while they're home - it's a great way to get firsthand information about college life from someone who can give you the inside scoop on college myths and realities!  PARENTS:Please remember to send payment on your October invoices as soon as you are able.The Huffington Post recently posted a wonderful blog posting from a fellow educational consultant about things that parents of pre-college students can do over the Thanksgiving holiday to reduce their own stress and that of their students.  Read the full article here. TRAVEL:I visited Otterbein University last week and hope to do one or two more before the semester sends students home.  The next big trip will most likely be January or February.  From the blog:As an educational consultant, I suffer from a condition I refer to as “itchy feet.”  Much like the pioneers who continued to forge west in search of more opportunities, I’m constantly on the move to visit college campuses.  I can’t help it.  If I’m at home with no campus visits on my calendar for any span of time greater than a few weeks, I actually begin to suffer withdrawal.Thus, when my calendar suddenly opened up with meetings this week and I could sneak away to get another visit in, I seized the opportunity and made an appointment at Otterbein University to see campus and tour their equestrian facilities.  (They were also kind enough to order a sunny day for it – what hospitality!).  Read More
