Parents, I don’t typically direct my blog posts to you specifically, but this week I’m going to make an exception.
You see, not only has the school year now begun for high school students, but college students have been in session for a week or so and, in many cases, the rosters for intercollegiate equestrian teams are complete for the season as well. This means that upperclass students are secure in their positions once more and the first years are assuming the mantle of team responsibility for the very first time – or at the very least, for the first time without your support.

School is back in session and the winter competition season is nearly upon us; what's your plan to keep up with both school and riding?

Think that college ranking lists are the best way to select a college?
Rankings are only as good as the data they're built on:
"Faculty resources, which accounts for 20 percent of the total, is largely a function of a school’s wealth. As for alumni giving, which counts for 5 percent, well, that benefits schools with fewer poor students to start with, and schools that graduate students in majors that draw bigger salaries. A school that graduates a lot of engineers is going to have more alums with more money to spend than a school that graduates a lot of teachers, or poets, or social workers. Does that mean one school is better than another?"
