If you live in the northern part of the country, right around January (post holidays but well before the onset of spring), you understand the winter blahs and the appeal of heading south for a few days to soak up enough sun to (hopefully!) get you through the weeks before warmth returns to our part of the country. In early December, officials at Smith College in Massachusetts made the decision to cut the varsity and community riding programs from the college's offerings.

A group of alumnae, friends, and current students/parents have begun a campaign to reverse this decision and are tracking their efforts and progress on social media and their own web site.

What parent or child doesn’t dream of that photograph on “Signing Day” when that big athletic scholarship for their child is real. After all those practices and games in the freezing cold and the blaring heat, after all that carpooling, the snack assignments and the cheering as well as the consolation; your kid deserves a scholarship, right?  Well we can all dream, but reality tells us a different story.
