This weekly blog keeps me on my toes, readers. The constant demand of having to simultaneously generate new content and commit it (somewhat) eloquently into WordPress every seven days without fail is enhanced by the niggling voice in the back of my head telling me that complacency is unacceptable. If I’m to continue to improve both in how I do my job and in how I think about my job, this blog is essential, so the stress of keeping it alive and updated is real.

Liberal Arts

"The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has now released

by two economists that examines the questions of the economic payoff of a liberal arts college education. The study makes no claims that liberal arts grads outearn those in, say, engineering. But the report says the claims that a liberal arts degree isn't worth its cost or will hurt a graduate's career prospects prove untrue. Specifically, the report says attending a liberal arts college for most students leads to meaningful economic mobility." 

SUNY New Paltz

State University of New York at New Paltz Athletic Director 

 announced Wednesday the Hawks equestrian program will add the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) format to its competitive riding program beginning in the 2019-20 academic year.

Zebra

The mystery of how the zebra got its stripes might have been solved: researchers say the pattern appears to confuse flies, discouraging them from touching down for a quick bite.

The study, published in the journal Plos One, involved horses, zebras, and horses dressed as zebras. The team said the research not only supported previous work suggesting stripes might act as an insect deterrent, but helped unpick why, revealing the patterns only produced an effect when the flies got close. Read More
