The REAL Admissions Test

The Leg Up Newsletter

ACT and SAT testing centers will soon open for students!

...unless they can't due to states' regulations.

...or dates are filled due to social distancing guidelines.

...or they could be canceled altogether.

If you're a student who hasn't tested previously or needs a re-test this fall before you apply, this newsletter has the most up-to-date information (at time of sending) on all things ACT and SAT.

Randi C. Heathman

The folks at Applerouth, one of the nation's leading test preparation companies (and the one Randi recommends to all of her client families), have published the following up-to-date online resource to assist families with staying on top of test dates, locations, changes, and policies headed into the new school year.

From the site:

"In September 2020, the ACT is changing in several key ways. Students will have the option to take the test online, retake individual sections, and submit an official ACT superscore to colleges.

We know that preparing for the ACT or SAT is already stressful enough without throwing major changes into the mix, and we’re here to help. We’ve built this free ACT test changes resource for students and their advocates - parents, guardians, counselors and educators - to stay informed, even as things continue to change."LINK TO SITE

The New York Times

has also published an article that discusses testing (and other college admission challenges) facing the senior class of 2021 in the coming application cycle.

Excerpt:

"Carly Ross, an 11th-grader at Evanston Township High School outside of Chicago, had planned to take the ACT for the first time in April after completing a 10-week prep course over the winter. When the April test date was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, she signed up for one in June.

Last week, the ACT canceled the June administration at two-thirds of testing locations nationwide, including at Carly’s school. She’s holding out hope to take the test in July.

“It’s adding so much stress to the process because now the ACT is talking about an online test, which is something I haven’t prepared for,” she said. “This isn’t how I expected my college search to unfold at all.”

She’s certainly not alone. The college search process, challenging even under normal circumstances, looks more daunting than ever to today’s high school juniors, thanks to Covid-19."READ MORE
