As a competitive dressage rider, I’m no stranger to the pressure and and stress that accompany show day and the weight of a judge’s eyes on me. Dressage tests are scored by movement and each number in the box ultimately evaluates the status of my training at the time (and my ability to focus in the moment). Whew! In fact, a big part of my training leading up to a competition always includes working on ignoring potential distractions during the test.

Automated research systems for studying equine cognition just got smarter. After the
, British scientists have developed a portable testing system with infrared technology. The benefits, they say, include testing in a horse’s home stable, without human intervention and without saliva interference.

The Kentucky Horse Council (KHC) will be award two $1,500 scholarships to Kentucky students already attending college, or accepted into a college, who have demonstrated academic success, equine industry involvement and community service for the Fall 2018 semester.
