News/Travel:Here's the latest update from AQHA on the situation between the NCAA and NCEA and the future of equestrian.A reminder, I head to Pennsylvania the week of November 17 to visit Juniata College, Elizabethtown College, Albright College, Lycoming College, Lebanon Valley College, and Messiah College.  As always, you can follow my travels on Twitter (@CollegeRiding or on the Facebook page for The Equestrian College Advisor).I am also currently wait-listed to fly to Texas in March 2015 for tours of TCU, SMU, and other Dallas-area schools. Finally, I will add some Florida schools to my visit list once I confirm my exact dates to be in Wel Seniors:If you're worried that riding in the IHSA won't prepare you for "real world" horse shows, you'd better check this girl out.Juniors:This was a pretty cool piece on women in Olympic coaching roles - as you begin to look for a coach for your college riding years, there are some traits you should consider.Underclassmen:Your assignment this week is to either follow former USET member Denny Emerson on Facebook ("Tamarack Hill Farm" is his page) or buy a copy of his book, How Good Riders Get Good.  (He's a Dartmouth alum, so he knows a little something about both horses and education.)Parents:Parents, invoices for October have been sent.  Your attention to this is appreciated.A lot of articles went out in the past week about kids over-training in particular sports and about helicopter parenting.  The takeaway is, I believe, to listen to your kids and determine what they want to do. From the blog:The 2014 CICV tour of Richmond, Virginia-area colleges and universities took us to a handful of well-known historically black colleges and universities and the first stop was at Virginia Union University, a small school that teaches its students to think big.(It’s also a school that knows how to welcome folks to campus in a big way – no one else greeted us with a full concert from their jazz ensemble.  It was fantastic!)Read More
