News/Travel:This week, the College Preparatory Horse Show announced that they've added a second event and location on the West Coast.  Debuting March 11-13, 2016, the event will be held at the LA Equestrian Center in Burbank, California. The original CPI Horse Show at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center in West Palm Beach, Florida will be held January 15-17, 2016.  Applications for both shows will become available on July 1 for high school juniors and seniors and on August 15 for underclassmen. The USEF has also announced that their high school letter campaign will now expand to junior high students.  More information is available through their press release.I had a personal piece published in The Chronicle of the Horse online for their annual essay writing contest.  It's the (sadly) true story of how my horse and I are the Fred and Ethel Mertz of the horse show world.  (Kids, your parents can explain that reference to you.) Upperclassmen:Careers in agriculture (and related areas) are booming for college graduates right now.USEF has a $1000 scholarship up for grabs for a high school student who will continue their equestrian career at the undergraduate level.Speaking of scholarships, the Arabian Horse Foundation offers one as well.  (Click the link for other animal and hobby-related scholarship links inside.)Underclassmen:Don't double deposit at more than one college when the time comes.  Just don't.Also in the category of things not to do - don't waste your campus visits.  Here's how to avoid doing just that.Parents:It turns out a lot of colleges and universities underestimate the true cost of attendance at their institutions.  How many is a lot?  One third, the report shows. From the blog:I have good news and bad news for you if you will graduate from high school in 2016:  The good news is that you’re on the verge of becoming an official high school senior (if you aren’t already) – congratulations! The bad news is:  You’re on the verge of becoming an official high school senior.  Read More
